Youssef George Bakhos, born on December 17, 1941, in Cairo, Egypt, emigrated to the United States in the summer of 1970. He passed away peacefully on June 10, 2024, in Orange, CA. He was one of seven children, preceded in death by his mother, Georgette Gawish, his father George Youssef Bakhos, and stepfather Mohammed Said. His two sisters, Aida and Nadia, and brother Mohammed also preceded him. Youssef is also survived by his older sister Marguerite “Go-Go” (husband Victor; deceased) along with his brothers Said (wife Salwa) and Ibrahim (wife Meha). Their love and shared memories will continue to honor his legacy.
Known affectionately as “Ba,” Youssef was cherished for his warmth, generosity, kindness, wit, humor, and intelligence. His welcoming spirit endeared him to everyone he met. As a fabulous cook, he frequently hosted dinners at his home, where the motto was “the more, the merrier.” Youssef never judged anyone, embracing diversity, and celebrating life. Professionally, Youssef retired from Northrop Grumman after over three decades as a test engineer in the aerospace and defense industry. Youssef was not only a warm and generous soul but also a brilliant inventor. His passion for creating and innovating led him to hold several patents throughout his life. Remarkably, one of his most recent patents was achieved after he turned 80—an achievement that filled him with pride, and rightly so. Whether it was during his spare time or within the halls of Northrop Grumman, Youssef’s mind was always at work, dreaming up new ideas and solutions. His legacy of innovation and resilience continues to inspire us all.
His legacy lives on through his five children: Suzanne “Sue” Giroux (husband Marc), Margaret “Maggie” Lepore (husband Jason), Nadia “Noosa” Mudd (husband Greg), Joseph “Joe” Bakhos (wife Esperanza), and Michael “Mikey” Bakhos. His seven grandchildren—Zachary Giroux, Luke Giroux, Max Lepore, Leah Lepore, James Mudd, Joelle Mudd, and William Bakhos. Beyond his professional achievements, Youssef’s family held him in high esteem. His children, lovingly known as —Sue, Maggie, Noosa, Joe, Mikey—looked up to him as a role model. They admired his resilience, kindness, and unwavering support. Youssef’s wisdom and love shaped their lives, and they carry his legacy forward.
As for his grandchildren—Zachary, Luke, Max, Leah, James, Joelle, and William—they adored “Ba.” His stories, laughter, and life lessons left indelible marks on their hearts. Youssef’s legacy lives on through these young souls, who continue to embrace his spirit of acceptance, generosity, and joy.
Youssef shared a unique and enduring bond with his ex-wife, Iman Martin. Despite their separation, their commitment to their children and grandchildren remained unwavering. Together, they prioritized family, ensuring that their kids and grandkids felt loved and supported.
Iman’s husband, Patrick Martin, also played an essential role in this extended family. His understanding and acceptance allowed Youssef and Iman to maintain a harmonious relationship centered around their shared love for their children and grandchildren. Their collective efforts created a nurturing environment where family thrived, transcending traditional boundaries.
