Youssef Abdishoo Obituary

Youssef Abdishoo joined his wife in their heavenly abode on 7/13/2020. He succumbed to lung cancer in his own bedroom while surrounded by many of his loved ones.  He is now at peace in the presence of Jesus.

Youssef Abdishoo was born 4/14/1933. He was born to Simon (Shimon) and Marganita Abdishoo in the village of Patavur in the city of Urmia, Iran. He was the youngest of four children. His three sisters were Shooshan, Georgette, and Rosa. Youssef Abdishoo has always been extremely intelligent, hard working and scholarly.  He continued to value education and a strong work ethic throughout his life.  He also had a goal, since childhood, to bring his family out of poverty.  Leading his family into a better a way of life was another trait that he carried with him throughout his life.

With great support from his sisters, especially Rosa, he was able to dedicate his youth to education and was, therefore, able to graduate with a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Tehran.  After graduation, he went to work in a large construction company.

On 8/16/1960, he married Mehri Toomasian, the love of his life. Now, with his own small family, he was all the more motivated to seek after a better life.  While early in his marriage, he left the security of his job to start his own construction company, along with two of his friends.  In 1970, Youssef and Mehri had their one child, Serge. Meanwhile, Youssef and his two partners continued to experience great success with their company until 1978, when political turmoil began to breakout in Iran.

Youssef was as daring, fierce, and forward minded as he was hard working. He noticed the political unrest in Iran in 1978 and began making arrangements to come to the United States. In late 1978, he led his wife, son and nephew, Jeanclaude, out of Iran and to the United States to start a new life.

In the United States, he worked as an entrepreneur involved in may businesses including gas stations and real estate.  He was a shrewd businessman.  He was not only able to provide for his immediate family, but he was also able to help much of the rest of his family leave Iran and begin their lives in the United States.  Leading his family and providing for them was what he had sought to do since his youth, and he continued on that goal throughout his life.

Sadly, he lost his wife to Acute Myelocytic Leukemia in October 1, 2019. Her untimely death was by far his greatest loss as his wife had been his greatest love.  Soon after, he himself succumbed to lung cancer.  He passed away on July 13, 2020, in his bedroom, in the house he and his wife purchased a year after coming to America, in the house where many of his family members stayed as they were transitioning to their new life in America.  He is survived by his son Serge, his daughter in law Lisa and his two granddaughters, Eleena and Christina.
