Walter Anthony Mullin Obituary

Walter Anthony Mullin 05/18/1935 - 01/08/2025

Walter, known affectionately to family as Dad, Pops, Papa Wally, Uncle Wally and sometimes affectionately Papa or Uncle Wally Gator. Wally was born and raised in Hawthorne CA. He met the love of his life, Shirley Ann Brophy when their moms set them up on a date for a dance at the Newman Club. They married on September 29, 1956. They raised 5 children - Eileen Tim, Laurie, Chris and Paul in the cities of Torrance, Garden Grove and California City; spending their senior years in Orange. The move in 1961 from Torrance to Sungrove St. in Garden Grove brought life long friendships to the whole family. In 1974, Wally purchased the Stop N Shop grocery store in Boron, CA; in partnership with his cousin Mary's husband Rick Lamy. Rick ran the butcher shop and Wally ran the grocery side. Wally was preceded in death by his youngest son Paul, his brother Bob and his parents George and Bernice Mullin. He leaves behind his wife Shirley, children Eileen (Bill) Verosko, Tim (Liz) Mullin, Laurie (Mike) Monnig and Chris (Kim) Mullin, 12 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. He took on many leadership roles through the years including president of the Parents Guild at St. Callistus, Knights of Columbus, President of the Chamber of Commerce in Boron, and helped run Bingo and the firework stand at Our Lady of Lourdes in California City. Wally taught us that our faith in God is endless, his example showed us love of family and friends. He also taught us a great work ethic and giving and doing for others. He was a loving, generous and loyal soul, and will be greatly missed by many.
