Ruth Schultz Zimmerman (August 1, 1933 - June 7, 2025)

 

Ruth’s spirit was lifted to Heaven on June 7, 2025 at Bayshire assisted living in Carlsbad, California with her family by her side.  Ruth, 91, was the eldest of four children born to Clara Beccue and Edward Schultz in the small farming town of Stirum, North Dakota.  Ruth had great parents and a Christian upbringing that she stood steadfast to her entire life.  Vernon Zimmerman (Fargo) was the lucky man that swept her off her feet while the two waltzed together on roller skates when that was a fashionable and wholesome pastime in the 1950’s.  

 

Ruth and Vernon were blessed with two children; Jonathan (Sharon) with Jared and Jason as grandchildren, and David (Karen) with Matthew and Christy as grandchildren.  After retiring from Northwestern Bell (Ruth) and Moorhead High teaching (Vernon) they quickly followed their children’s lead to California to be a part of their lives for their remaining years. 

 

In between raising two children and working full time in the Forum building, Ruth enjoyed giving free hair-cuts to anyone who would sit still, planting and gardening vegetables, enjoying sunshine, and planning meals months in advance for company and holidays.

 

As a Christian, Ruth would always respond with “I’m blessed” when asked how she was doing and her favorite quote from the Bible was Psalms 118:24, “This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!”  In fact, her room was decorated with and surrounded by items that would proclaim her allegiance to the Triune God; truly a devout Christian! 

 

She was a loving and giving wife, mother and friend and will be remembered and adored by everyone that knew her.   She especially will be greatly missed by her sister, Esther Stevenson (Dilworth, MN) and brother, Leland (West Bend, WI).  Ruth was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly fifty years, Vernon (2004), and her brother James (2012).
