Ruben Diaz Huizar Obituary
Ruben Diaz Huizar Sr.,
96, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2025, in his hometown of Stanton, California, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
Born on April 29, 1928, in Madera, California, to Ismael and Luciana Huizar, Ruben was raised alongside his siblings in the city of Colotlán, Mexico.
Ruben was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dolores (“Loli”) Valencia, and his sons Gerardo and Ruben Jr. On July 30, 1952, Ruben married his sweetheart, Loli, of Tolleson, Arizona. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support. The couple eventually settled in Anaheim, California, in the neighborhood fondly known as “La Colonia,” where Ruben became known for his strong work ethic and dedication to his family.
He later moved his family to Stanton, California, where he proudly purchased a home affectionately called the “Lil Mansion.” A skilled cement mason, Ruben worked in his trade for over 25 years. He often shared stories of his time working at Disneyland, where he helped lay curbs and etched his name into the cement, leaving a lasting legacy.
Ruben is survived by his six daughters—Alma, Martha, Consuelo, Rebecca, Aurora, and Veronica—and one son, Fernando. He was the cherished grandfather of 24, great-grandfather of 38, and great-great-grandfather of two.
Ruben had a special gift for storytelling, captivating his family with tales from his past. One memorable story involved a horse named Maria and a pig named Carnitas, which always brought laughter. His daughters, devoted to him in his final years, provided loving care, especially during the last two months of his life. According to them, Ruben was not just their father but their king—a guiding light in their lives.
Ruben touched countless lives over the course of his 96 years. He and his wife shared a life rich in experiences, traveling to Mexico, Canada, and across the United States, creating cherished memories along the way.
A man of immense strength and resilience, Ruben faced life’s challenges without complaint, often saying, “Everything is okay.” He instilled in his family the values of hard work, perseverance, and the importance of saving for the future. His wise words, steadfast love, and enduring legacy have left a profound impact on those who knew him.
Dad, you were our rock, our source of clarity in a chaotic world, and the foundation of our family. Because of you, we have hearts of lions, the bond of family, and an enduring work ethic. You taught us to cherish life, to laugh, and to stand strong in the face of adversity.
We will miss you dearly but find comfort in the countless memories we shared. Your love, wisdom, and sacrifices have shaped us into the people we are today. Rest in peace, Dad. You will live on forever in our hearts and memories.
May God bless you, and may each tear and fond memory be a note of love rising to meet you.
