Lieutenant Colonel Robert Gover, a retired United States Marine, passed away at the age of 99 at his Eichler home of 60 years in Orange, on October 15, 2024. He was born in 1925 in Salisbury, Missouri. LtCol Gover served honorably for 26 years. Notably he served in China, the Korean War (Chosin Reservoir), and the Vietnam War. He's a highly decorated Marine officer where he served as a tank commander and a pilot (both fixed-wing and helicopters). He’s a recipient of two Purple Hearts. He also earned the coveted title of Distinguished Pistol Shooter.
In his retirement, he spent over 10 years detailing his Memoirs from the Great Depression, his youth as a jockey, his Marine Corps career, and second career with the State Fund.
His death is preceded by his wife (Patricia), five sisters, two brothers. He's survived by his children, Edward, Susan (Gary), Bruce (Carole), and Alan (Lori), six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, his sister (Yvonne) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services for LtCol Gover, with full military honors, will be held at Riverside National Cemetery at 12 pm Oct 22 for friends, family and fellow veterans. A Celebration of Life will be held at his home on Oct 23 at 1 pm for friends, family and fellow veterans.
