Richard Michael (Mike) Cahill (Retired) 73 passed away unexpectedly at his home in Tustin, Ca. on July 25,2018. Born to the late Richard L. Cahill and Dorothy L. Nelson in Waterloo Iowa he was the second of five children. Mike attended St. Anthony’s grammar school and graduated Bishop Montgomery High School Class of 62. He attended El Camino College and joined the U.S. Navy in 1964. He served in the US Navy for 28 years and retired in 1994. After retiring from the Navy he returned to school and received his Bachelor of Arts -Interdisciplinary Studies from Cal State University Dominguez Hills. He then started a second career as a teacher of Social Studies in Tustin, Irvine, and Fullerton middle schools and high schools.
Mike was an avid surfer, camper, and a huge fan of college and professional sports. A lifetime lover of Dodger baseball, Ram football, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. But most of all it was all things Notre Dame football.
He is survived by his wife Wendy Cahill. Brothers Pat Cahill (Aurora) and John Cahill (Michele), sisters Maryann Kelly (Bill) and Colleen Von Flotow. Sons Michael Cahill and Tim Cahill. Daughters Megan Mickschl; Shannon Reynolds, Karen Walters, and Brandy Sanders. Grandchildren Brandon Cahill, Matthew Cahill, Lauryn Mickschl, Gordon Cahill, Briana Cahill, Austin Burkholder, Allyson Mickschl, Sterling Kelly, Karli Walters, Ryan Reynolds, and Dawson Walters. Great-grandchildren Nolan and Evie Cahill. He is preceded in Death by his parents, grandson Jonah Michael Kelly, son in law Brian Mickschl nephew Michael Olvera and Brother in Law Donny Von Flotow.
