Regina Carmel Ormsby Gassner, loving mother, wife, sister, and daughter passed away peacefully at home in the company of her husband and sons on November 11, 2021, at the age of 67. Regina was born on November 6, 1954, in Brooklyn, NY and lived in the northeast until the age of 9 when she moved with her family to Los Angeles, CA. She was a devout Catholic throughout her life, graduating from Immaculate Heart High School. She then attended Loyola Marymount University where she studied English. She went on to work in the airline industry for Trans World Airlines at Los Angeles International Airport where she met her husband, Randy. Prior to marriage, Regina loved using her airline perks to travel the world with her friends. Married in 1984, Randy was the light of Regina’s world, and she for him. While juggling raising 3 sons, Regina worked as a teacher when she could, and volunteered her time in religious education and charitable work.
Regina enjoyed many things in life, including reading books, watching movies, traveling with her family, and the holidays. Above all else, Regina loved her family more than words could describe. She would often say “my happiest times are when we are all together.” Regina’s faith was unwavering. She prayed for hours every morning for her family, friends, acquaintances, and even strangers—all intentionally and by name.
At the age of 65, Regina was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer. She underwent many bouts of tests, treatments, and procedures for more than a year and a half. She fought with a steadfast heart filled with grace, hope, and faith, often worrying more about others than herself. She received innumerable messages of support from family and friends in addition to special prayers from her beloved Carmelite Nuns of Georgetown, CA.
She is survived by her husband Randy, three sons: Joseph who teaches abroad in Taiwan, Timothy who is an User Experience Designer in San Diego, and Stephen who is a physician in Orange County, along with her siblings Jack Ormsby, Maureen Kozoll, Therese Wolf, and Peggy Zelenay, and all her in-laws, nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless friends. Regina’s faith, sense of humor, love, and compassion will forever be a legacy her family will honor and attempt to live by.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Orange, CA at 10:00 AM. If desired, in lieu of flowers, family and friends may make memorial donations to the Discalced Carmelite Nuns of Sacramento according to Regina’s wishes at the following address:
