Loving. Dependable. Thoughtful. Giving. These words only scratch the surface of her great heart and strong will. Born in Spain on January 22, 1953, Ramona Ramirez Nimtz was the daughter of her loving parents Jose Lorenzo Ramirez Aldavero and Ramona Mora Rios and the younger sister of Juan Jose Ramirez Mora. At the young age of 19, her graceful, spirited beauty on the outside and inside caught the eye of Michael while they were dancing in Madrid, Spain. After their marriage in Spain, her courageous spunk would be tested as she learned to navigate a new life and language in California. She raised two daughters with great determination. She would do anything for her family, and was the kind of mom who was always there and helped without being asked.
Some knew her as Ramona, Monica, or Ramoni. All knew her as a beautiful, vibrant force, as she did everything full of energy including sharing her ideas, helping others, hosting gatherings, and pouring her love into cooking dishes like paella. Her creative edge showed through her fun clothing, care-free dance moves, appreciation for decor, and love for arts, crafts, and painting. She was self-motivated, talented and improved anything she touched, including with her job managing a high school career center, where she helped students in new and meaningful ways. She valued relationships and connected with others through homemade food, thoughtful gifts, and sharing personal stories over coffee.
Ramoni appreciated the moments in her life, both big and small. She often expressed that life is beautiful, it should be shared with others, and you should be grateful for what you have. She was known for trying to capture as many memories as possible on camera and for being as present as she could in the lives of her two daughters and five grandchildren. One of her great desires was to cheer on her grandchildren throughout their lives. Unexpectedly in November of 2019, she was forced to fight a hard battle against leukemia which she did with great bravery and will. On June 22, 2020, she passed away at City of Hope with her husband and daughters by her side.
Ramoni (“Abuela/Nana”) will always be remembered as a loving grandmother by Blake, Avery, Abigail, Audrey, and Apollo; a hard working mother by Raquel & Michelle; a dedicated wife of 45 years by Michael; a warm and giving mother-in-law by Brian and Hector; and a treasured friend by many. Her big smile and ever-flowing love will forever be a part of everyone who knows her.
