Norma Lee S. (Boyd) Koob

Age 86   Passed away peacefully on October 2, 2024, in Brea, California.

Born August 21, 1938, in Hagerstown, Maryland.

Norma is a graduate of St. Maria Goretti Catholic High School and received her nursing degree from Pangborn School for Nursing in Hagerstown, MD.  

 Norma dedicated over 35 years as a Registered Nurse in acute care hospitals, a vocation that took her across various states, including South Carolina, Florida, and eventually California.  Even after retiring, she continued to serve the community by volunteering at St.  Jude Medical Center, in Fullerton, California. 

Norma lived a life marked by deep personal relationships and a loving family. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother. 

Norma’s Catholic faith played a significant role in her life.  Being a devoted member of San Antonio de Padua del Canon Church and St. Norbert Catholic Church, both in Anaheim, California, and St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in Hagerstown, Maryland. She had a passion for teaching Bible studies alongside her grandson Nolan and served as a volunteer in the kitchen at both churches.  

Norma was considered the life of the party. Her nursing colleagues respected her for her professionalism, sense of humor and compassionate care.  Her hobbies also included gardening, sewing, and traveling and she was very active in water aerobics. 

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Leanne Boyd, her husbands, Lee Martin Boyd and Albert Joseph Koob, her parents, Alvey and Margaret Shrader and her sister, Doris Harbaugh. 

Norma leaves behind a legacy of love and cherish memories with her grandson, Nolan Butler, her brother Richard Shrader, his wife Diane, her stepson Matthew Koob, his wife Laura, and their four children, Nolan’s parents, Diego and Cynthia Negrete along with their four children, his Aunt Jade, and many devoted nieces and nephews. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sister Jane Francis Scholarship fund at Providence St. Jude Memorial Foundation in memory of Norma’s love for nursing and life commitment to helping others.  Norma’s legacy of kindness, generosity and unwavering faith will forever be cherished by all who knew her.

Norma Koob's service will be at St. Norbert Catholic Church on 11/6/2024 at 10 am with Father John officiating.
