Maureen Haskins
December 22, 1936 – January 5, 2025
Maureen Haskins was called home on January 5, 2025. We know that she was greeted by her Lord and Savior with the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
She was born in Long Island, New York on December 22, 1936 to her parents, Arthur “Red” Patterson and Helen O’Brien Patterson. She moved to California in 1958 after her father made the announcement in October 1957 that the Brooklyn Dodgers were moving to Los Angeles. In California, she made a way for herself where she got married and raised her 3 boys – Ian, Keith and Darin. As a mom, she was the chauffeur for all of the boys’ sports teams and became a knowledgeable scorekeeper for her boys as they played baseball, then water polo, then swimming. She was their biggest supporter and cheerleader. But she also was a teacher, starting as a teacher aide for kindergarten before becoming a science teacher and later a computer teacher. She was instrumental in working with Apple to set up the first-generation computer lab at St. Norbert’s Elementary School in the early 1980s. After retirement, she also continued her love for learning by becoming a Master Gardener through UCI, which, among other things, helped her cultivate a beautiful and lively garden in her own backyard. She also volunteered at St. Vincent De Paul, but her true passion and joy was her daily involvement at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
While she will be missed by her family – sons Ian (wife Maria), and Keith (wife Kristen), as well as her grandchildren Brendan (wife Breezy), Samantha, Amy and Rachel, and still further, her great grandchildren Tatum, Logan, Sebastian, and Darin (coming soon) – they are also extremely happy because they know she is living the perfect life now in heaven.
Maureen was the consummate servant who always put the wants and needs of her family and others ahead of her own. Now, she is enjoying perfection in her new body, and we are so happy for her.
