Mary Jorth Obituary

"Mary Glenn Jorth was born to Ron and May Smith in Elgin IL on April 2, 1932. As she had always dreamed, Mary passed away peacefully in her own home of 52 years in Orange CA on August 23, 2025.

Mary graduated from St. Edward’s Catholic High School in Elgin. She then entered Elgin Community College where she met Duane Jorth. At the encouragement of her aunts, she switched to secretarial school in Chicago, taking the commuter train from Elgin to Chicago every day.

Anticipating his draft, Mary and Duane arranged a marriage to be sure the families could all be there. And so, December 26, 1954, was the big day. Then they moved to Waterloo, Iowa where Duane started his work assignment with the Carnation Company. They returned to Elgin anticipating the actual draft letter. When the Navy stationed him in San Diego, Mary drove bravely by herself from Elgin to San Diego.  After the Navy, they moved with the job assignments to Portland OR, Los Angeles CA, and finally Orange CA.

Mary was blessed to have and raise three sons, Bill, Tom and Steve, and a daughter, Susan. She is survived by her husband, Duane, and 3 children, 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, all of whom she dearly loved.

Mary was sincerely thankful for God's love. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend."
