Obituary

Marvin “Mickey” Stout

Marvin Carl Michael Stout, lovingly called Mickey by his family, a resident of Santa Ana, passed away after complications following surgery at the age of 89 on Thursday, August 10th, 2023.

Marvin was born August 19, 1933, in Otis, New Mexico, to Marvin Henry Stout and Clara Francis (Gaines) Stout. His parents had two children, Marvin and his sister Virginia (Stout) Billingsley.

Marvin was only 19 when he joined the US Navy. He served from 1952-1955 and was honorably discharged. He will be laid to rest in Riverside National Cemetery with full honors in a private family ceremony.

Marvin and his wife, Doris Arlene (Cooper) Stout, married in Escondido, California, on December 27, 1958. They raised two children, Rex Marvin Stout and Melody Sue (Stout) Williams. The Stout family moved around California for a few years, living in Escondido, El Cariso, Descanso, Kernville, and finally, Santa Ana.

Marvin’s career was in the US Forest Service from 1957-1983, fighting forest fires. He started his Forest Service career as a proud El Cariso Hotshots Special Unit member in the late 1950s to early 1960s. After many years, transfers, and promotions, he retired as a district fire management officer in Orange County.

After retiring, Marvin loved to travel and hike, enjoyed reading all kinds of books, studying the Bible, and gardening. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandkids.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Clara, and his son, Rex. He is survived by his wife, Doris Stout, Daughter, Melody Williams, and Sister (and brother-in-law), Virginia (Dana) Billingsley, and by his eight grandchildren (and spouses): Jessica (Matthew) Kuhn, Janell Stout, Casey (Kaitlyn) Williams, Cole (Marlene) Williams, Katie (Glenn) Hendrickson, Randall Williams, Elizabeth (Joshua) Bocanegra, and Garrett Williams. He is also survived by his three great-grandchildren, Tyler Kuhn, Jamie Kuhn, and Clara Williams, and many nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.

A celebration of life service for Marvin will be held Monday, August 28, 2023, at 5 p.m. at Taft Community Church, with a dinner reception to follow. The family invites all who knew him to attend.
