Martin Joseph Izzi

Marty, a devoted family man, proud ironworker, and passionate outdoorsman, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 12, 2026. He was 74 years old.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, on August 22, 1951, Marty was a curious kid who was often found taking things apart to see how they worked or would be found lost in his imagination playing in the park. His father died suddenly when he was young, so his mother and older brother eventually relocated to Anaheim, California, to live near his mother’s sisters. They all lived nearby each other, so he was able to visit aunts, uncles, and cousins on a regular basis. He and his many cousins grew up more like siblings. 

His mom remarried and had 3 girls: Michelle, Molly, and Melissa. He and his older brother, Matt, looked after their younger sisters after their father moved out of the country.  

Having lost his father at a young age, Marty drew inspiration from the many father figures in his life, including his uncles, coaches, outdoor mentors, and metalworking instructors. He carried their lessons with him throughout his life and, in turn, became a mentor to others.

Marty spent time in junior high and high school volunteering and offering service in the community which is how he met his best friend, Vic. 

Marty spent the majority of his career as an ironworker with BAPKO Metal LLC and was able to retire in 2003 due to working many hours of overtime.  He was a proud member of the Ironworkers Local Union 433. Later in his career, he enjoyed being an instructor teaching in the ironworkers apprenticeship program. He built not only structures but also lasting relationships and a reputation for his innovation and determination. He took immense pride in his trade and left behind a legacy of craftsmanship, dedication, and hard work that will endure for generations.

He had two children, Matthew and Janelle, from his first marriage with Cindy.  He enjoyed being a grandfather to his 3 grandchildren and spent time getting to know their passions and interests. 

After marrying his second wife, Marde, he became a step father to her adult children Shawna and Sharron. He was happy to step in as a grandpa to their children and later became a great grandpa. 

Outside of work, Marty found his greatest joy in the outdoors. An enthusiastic hunter and fisherman, he felt most at peace in nature.  

He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Santa Ana and later in Hemet. He was also a member of the Lions Club of Anza Valley where he served as president and was later awarded Lion of the Year for his service and dedication. He offered a lot of support and volunteer time at the Gymkhana events over the years in Anza, California.

Those who knew Marty will remember his vibrant personality, infectious smile and laugh, and ability to make others feel welcome. He wore his heart on his sleeve, always tried to enjoy life to the fullest, and deeply valued friendship, maintaining lifelong relationships that spanned decades.

He loved sharing his knowledge with others. Whether teaching someone how to tie a precise knot, demonstrating wilderness survival skills, preparing a traditional Italian meal, or taking to the dance floor, Marty delighted in sharing the things he loved with those around him.

While he found joy in his work, service, and outdoor pursuits, Marty’s happiest moments were spent with his family and friends. They remained the greatest source of pride, love, and fulfillment in his life.

Marty is survived by his beloved wife Marde; his children, his sisters; and a large and loving family of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will forever cherish his warmth, wisdom, humor, and generous spirit.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents and his brother.
