Leslie Steve Rajczi
January 5, 1938 – August 4, 2025
Leslie Steve Rajczi, the son of Erma and Steve Rajczi, was born on January 5, 1938 in Wyandotte Michigan. His family moved to California when Les was six years old.
He is survived by his long-time companion Mary McDermid and cousins Teresa Robertson, Alex Rajczi and Sarah Tannas. He also has many cousins in Slovakia.
Les’s grandparents Samuel and Mary were set to leave Hungary and emigrate to the US, but unfortunately Mary became ill. The two younger children were on her passport, so she had to stay in Hungary with those children. That is why Les still has first cousins there.
Les’s parents were born in Hungary, in a town that later became part of Slovakia. Les was very proud of his Hungarian heritage and spoke Hungarian well at one time. He visited Slovakia at least four times. He took his dad there, and on one of the first visits, he rewired the electricity so that his Hungarian relatives could turn on the light in one side of a room and turn it off in another side. When Slovakia was communist, they wired each house for one light and if they wanted more, they had to pay for it.
Les’s family lived in Tujunga and Montrose, CA. He completed his education and became an engineer in the space industry – a true rocket scientist. Les had a long and successful career in the aerospace industry, receiving numerous awards throughout the years.
Les was an avid Corvette enthusiast and at one time had three. He was also a wonderful dancer. He and Mary danced and traveled around the world. They were also active in the Orange County Hungarian Club.
Les never married, but Mary’s family loved him and looked to him as a father figure.
He will be missed by all that knew and loved him.
