Kerry Andrew Saxon was born on May 24, 1951 in the state of Illinois. His family moved to California, when he was 8 years old. He grew up in Covina and was one of five children born to George and Dorothy Saxon. He is the first of his siblings to pass away.
After high school, Kerry served in the United States Army. Drafted in 1971, his commitment was for 6 years. Thankfully during his 2 years of active duty, he was sent to Germany and not to Vietnam. Upon his return from service, he found employment at VARCO in Los Angeles, road dirt bikes with his best friend John Mayer, and went to Citrus College in Glendora. After being laid off, he worked at Paul Munroe Hydraulics for 4 years, where he increased his knowledge in engineering and hydraulics.
In 1982, he committed his life to Christ and sought to serve Him passionately – ministering to the homeless while offering them a meal, hosting Bible studies with various church communities, and planning to be a missionary in Hungary. Ultimately, his missionary work did not come to fruition but not for lack of preparation.
Lured back to VARCO (a.k.a. NOV) for his knowledge and expertise, Kerry worked in Research and Development at their Orange County location and honed his skills with building, disassembling, installing, and troubleshooting various tools used in the oil and gas drilling industry. Setup on a blind date by a co-worker, he met the love of his life, Kristine, in 1984. During their early years together, he travelled to rigs around the world installing and repairing many tools and eventually retired in 2016.
Kerry and Kristine were married in January of 2000 and actively participated in church life. He led Bible studies at church and recovery centers like the Salvation Army; together, they performed in Christmas plays, fellowshipped with other families, and encouraged others in their relationship with Christ. As a couple, they also took pleasure in spending time at their cabin in Vega, Colorado.
Kerry enjoyed investing in his family, friends, and fellow church members - both here in Orange, California as well as in Collbran, Colorado. A man of many hobbies, talents and interests, he taught himself how to paint with water colors, loved woodworking, and worked with all kinds of machinery. Some of his favorite projects were done with his brother, Kris, and for his nephews, Gage and Kade.
When embarking on a new project of any kind, he would always start by researching the “ins and outs”; then, he could just do it. True of his relationship with Christ, too, his deepest longing was for his Lord and Savior! His loving service to God is his defining legacy, overshadowing all other accomplishments While he is missed dearly and was taken from this world far too soon, we who live on take comfort in knowing that he was ushered into Heaven with the blessing: “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
Kerry Saxon passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2025, in the home that he shared with his adoring wife. He is survived by his siblings Tom Saxon, Kirk Saxon, Kim Allen, and Kris Saxon and their respective families. He was a loving father to Tiffany Baker, Father-in-Law to Ryan Baker, and an amazing grandfather to Kathryn, Caleb, Emma, and Joshua Baker, whom he adored immensely. He was also a loving son, supportive brother, and doting uncle.
Kerry lived well as a friend to many, a father figure to others, and a respected man of God beyond what he could comprehend this side of Heaven. His demeanor was quiet yet possessed a strength grounded in his knowledge of God and His Word. His impact will live on in the hearts and memories of those that cherish him.
