John Ronald Mummert

John Mummert age 83, died May 4, 2019 in Orange California after a long battle with cancer.  He was born May 15, 1935, to Harry and Ruth (Gifford) Mummert in Cherokee, Iowa. John was raised in Cherokee and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School. John was United in Marriage with Anita (Launderville) Mummert on May 18, 1957 at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.  He and Anita moved to California with his family in 1962 where they raised their five children in Orange, California.   John owned Harbor Tire in Fullerton where he enjoyed visiting with his customers. He was active in the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Boy Scouts as a leader, Past President of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, collecting books about Ireland and a Third-Degree Knight of Columbus. He enjoyed watching professional sports, repairing clocks, cabinets and auto repair of old cars.  John was an all-around gifted carpenter.

John and Donna (Beck) Mummert were married November 27, 1993 at Holy Family Cathedral in Orange.  After retirement John and Donna moved to Plano, Texas .

John is survived by his five children and their spouses Teresa and (Woody) Miller, Sterling, Colorado, Michael (Marilyn)  Mummert Bonney Lake, Washington, Timothy and (Margrethe) Mummert Poughkeepsie, New York, Michelle and (Karl) Koch Hartington, Nebraska, and Tracy and (Veronica) Mummert Orange, California. He has 9 Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren. Brother Dean Mummert, Cherokee, Iowa, Richard and sister-in-law (Patty) Mummert, San Diego, California and sister in-law JoAnn Reed, Lakeside, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his wife Anita (Launderville) November 28, 1988, parents, infant brother, siblings Donald, Gerald, Jim, Phil, Lyle and Rita (Carlson) Mummert.

John will be laid to rest at Holy Sepulcher, Cemetery in Orange, California.
