Joanne L. Herbel, 78, passed away May 25th, 2022 at her home in Fountain Valley, CA.
Joanne, known to those dear to her as Jammie Jo, was born in Salem, Massachusetts to George and Marie Willis but lived all over the country while her father served in the Air Force. She met Robert Herbel in San Diego, CA and married him on June 1, 1963. They made their home in Fountain Valley for the majority of their marriage and raised their three daughters there. She lost Robert in 1989 after 26 years of marriage.
Joanne worked mostly as a secretary/office manager in various offices. Happily retiring from Austin Foust Associates in 2008, Joanne was then able to let her creative side flourish. Always an amazing seamstress she continued to sew things from clothes to quilts and she crocheted all sorts of projects. When she began taking oil painting classes her family was awed at her talent. She loved them to share their vacation photos so she could paint colorful landscapes. She enjoyed sharing her love of painting with the neighborhood children by teaching them how to paint. Her beautiful artwork adorns the homes of all of her children and grandchildren.
Joanne is survived by her three daughters: Teresa Twyman of Fountain Valley, CA, Jill (Ed) Rendl of Santa Ana, CA and Corinna (Jason) Powers of Ramona, CA. She leaves behind her 9 grandchildren: Breanna (Jeremy) Kubiak, Kayla (Juan) Twyman-Souza, Chandler Rendl, Justine (Benjamin) Thompson, Matthew Twyman, Jacob (Leanna) Powers, Christopher Twyman, Jarett Powers and Courtney Rose Powers. She was blessed to have met her first Great Grandchild, Jackson Kubiak. She also leaves behind her sister Judy (Richard) Cervantes, her brothers: Richard (Nancy) Willis and Gary Willis as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Robert Herbel; her brothers: Ronnie and Roger Willis; her sister Janet Webber and several nieces and nephews.
Services are set for June 1, 2022 at 10 am at Holy Family Catholic Church in Orange, CA. Joanne will be laid to rest on June 2, 2022 with Robert at San Marcos Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, her family asks that you consider donating to Joanne’s favorite foundation: Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) https://foundation.choc.org/?form=donate.
