James Patrick Cruz, born September 29, 1969 passed away unexpectedly at the age of 51 from an apparent heart attack on May 17, 2021. James affectionately known as Jim, Jimmy, “Jim-Jim” or “Jeeeim” is survived by his wife Kimberly and children Nathan, Noah and Natalyia. Father Joseph Cruz and brothers; Joe and wife Michelle and their 3 children; Jeff and wife Christy Cruz and their 4 children and 3 grandchildren; Jason Cruz and wife Carrie and their 3 children and 1 grandchild.
Jim was born and raised in Orange CA, where he attended local schools including Villa Park High and made many friends because of his warm personality, sense of humor and his respect for others. Blessed with strong athleticism he enjoyed playing most sports, especially football and basketball where he excelled. He also enjoyed drawing and studied architecture where he was gifted at creative design. In addition, enjoyed woodworking and developed craftsman level skills.
While working most of his professional career as a warehouse manager at a local carpet mill, Jim put his design and wood working capabilities to use on a part time basis by designing and building custom cabinetry for kitchens, bathrooms as well as mantle pieces and wall units. In 2017 he established his full-time business, Distinctive Cabinet Design where his custom designs and high-quality woodwork were installed in homes throughout Orange, Los Angeles and Riverside counties. He had a unique capability to visualize optimal designs taking into account existing architecture, interior design and functionality while engaging clients to create a truly custom design and experience.
Above and beyond Jim’s skills, he had a meaningful relationship with the Lord through Jesus, studying the bible, listening to praise music, prayer and worshiping God with his family. His relationship with the Lord grounded him in love for others, humility and selflessness to name a few. He loved his wife Kim of 15 years deeply and was a profoundly committed father to his children by raising them up in the way of the Lord, spending a lot of time with them, instructing and teaching them life lessons. He had a great sense of humor and playful warm spirit that was inviting to all, especially children. In addition, he loved spending time on the basketball court with Nathan, football field with Noah, dance performances with Natalyia, watching movies and cooking meals with his family.
Jim was a remarkable husband, father, son, brother and friend to many and who was tremendously loving, caring, selfless and easy going, his passing has left a gaping hole in all the lives he’s touched. Thankfully, through God’s plan of salvation through Jesus, we have the hope of reuniting with Jim in heaven someday where he’s joined those loved ones that have gone before us. Until then, we will honor Jim’s memory by following his example as a family man, selflessness and genuine love for one another and God.
