James Lewis Arceneaux died on November 28, 2022 of natural causes. He was born in Lafayette, Louisiana to Benjamin Louis Arceneaux and Palmyre Martin Arceneaux. James attended St John the Evangelist High School in Lafayette, earned his B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, and his M.A. in Civil Engineering from California State University, Long Beach. He served in the US Marine Corps for six years, with one year of active duty and five years in the Marine Corps Reserves. James first worked for the Louisiana Department of Transportation in Baton Rouge, LA, for two years before moving to California in 1965 to secure employment with the California Department of Transportation as a Traffic Control Engineer, a position he would hold until his retirement in 2003. James and his wife Cecile were active members of St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Fullerton, California. James had active personal interests in woodworking, genealogy, and Cajun culture. James was preceded in death by two infant twin boys, his parents, his wife, Cecile Wanda Deshotels Arceneaux, and his daughter, Michelle Scott Arceneaux who died the day before his passing. James is survived by his first son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Lisa Arceneaux, his second son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Kathryn Arceneaux, his son-in-law, Don Scott, four grandchildren, Donald Scott Jr., Danielle Arceneaux, Chloe Arceneaux, and Tony Arceneaux, his brother, Benjamin Arceneaux, Jr. of Lafayette, LA, his sister, Mary Coco Arceneaux of Moreauville, LA, and numerous nieces. He will be buried at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Orange, CA next to his wife, Cecile, after a ceremony at Shannon Family Mortuary at 9am on Saturday, January 7, 2023. Peace to his ashes.
