Huey Mi Huang Obituary

Huey Mi Huang, born November 1, 1937, in Hualien, Taiwan transcended our world and was welcomed to the next chapter of her existence on April 14, 2025.

Ama, as her grandchildren call her, said farewell peacefully and from her home in Irvine, California after nearly a month of tender, loving, at-home care from her husband, Po, her three sons and daughters Chu, Chen, Steve, Shawn, and Yu-Chen, her grandchildren Kent, Stephy, Henry, Austin, Conner, Janda, Angela, Lydia, and Annie, and her great-grandchildren Marcus, Andrew, and Matthew. The Huangs travelled well across this vast planet, physically and spiritually, to be by Huey Mi's side while she battled the challenges of a stroke she sustained the week of March 16, 2025.

Despite the obstacles presented by this stroke, Huey Mi's extreme strength, vigor, and sublime energy were clearly evident and proved Huey Mi the victor with her unstoppable ability to regain herself from the darkness of a life-threatening affront and to withstand an imminent demise so that her husband, children, grandchildren, and family were bestowed her final gift of time and opportunity to say their final words of love and thanks.

A beautiful wife and relentlessly ferocious mother, Huey Mi led the start of a new life for her family in the United States in the 1970's, successfully keeping her whole family together without leaving behind a single member during uncertain times of Taiwan.

To this day, her memory lives on through the stories she built with her husband as she would ride her red bicycle down the streets of her hometown to end up dancing with Po; unrelentingly and unapologetically steering a life together with him, all from humble beginnings and with grit and determination.

Huey Mi's final days were filled with love, peace, and the comfort and views and smells of her home. She was persistently cared for. Po would wake up each morning and tell her stories of their origins, Chu would help communicate with all members of the family to make sure Ama's best interests were asserted before all else, Eddie would feed her and make sure she was always physically comfortable and respectable and would document every single event that was undertaken to nurture her health and would even play classical music and footage of her hometown to make her feel that much more at ease, Steve would liaise between his father and the rest of the family so that there would be a common understanding among all members of this multilingual household. Huey Mi's grandchildren, Kent and Stephy, expressed their love by sharing their feelings of appreciation and gratefulness, Dr. Austin Huang was steadfast in using his education as a physician to make sure Ama was getting the best care possible, Conner was always present to help support his father's and the family's morale, Janda was devoted to precisely monitoring Ama's health by observing her at every waking moment he had available, and Henry did his best to be around and help in any way that he could.

Huey Mi Huang departed peacefully and loved, wholeheartedly, by her family. The sadness of her transition is overshadowed by the love we all have for her. A love made possible only by her presence in this world and shaped by the sacrifices she has made along with her unwavering devotion to the wellbeing of her family. Ama will be remembered for her resolute love, her smiles, and her ability to make everyone feel welcome.

Ama's final resting place is located at Santa Ana Cemetery in Santa Ana, California. She shall be interred on June 23, 2025.
