Heidi E McGuire Obituary
Heidi Elaine (Swanson) McGuire passed away peacefully May 11, 2025 in Orange, CA. She spent her final days at home and her family and friends were able to visit and give her back the love she gave so freely.
Born in Alliance, Ohio on December 17, 1944 to Raymond and Jeanne Swanson, she moved with her parents and two sisters, Linda and Kris, to Orange, CA at the age of three. She spent most of her life in the same house where she was raised. She could never sit still and was always busy sewing, painting, crafting, gardening and spending time with her family.
Heidi is survived by her three daughters and 6 grandchildren. Brandi (Burbridge) Ruppert, her husband Robert and their two dogs, lived just next door to Heidi. She was a constant presence in their lives. Always lending a hand with gardening, home improvement and dog sitting. Her daughter Brooke (Burbridge) Crutchfield and her husband Larry reside in Marietta, GA. Brooke’s oldest daughter Erin Broderson is a flight attendant and Alison Crutchfield just graduated college. Elizabeth (Burbridge) Wilson, her husband Pete and their 4 children were right around the corner. Elijah, Luke, Ruth and John spent a lot of time in ‘Grammy’s’ backyard. Heidi attended as many sporting events and dance recitals as possible and spent as much time with her grandchildren as she could manage.
Heidi touched many lives, on a daily basis. She spent over 30 years taking panels into Juvenile Hall, speaking to at risk youth through H & I. She also started volunteering at St Joseph’s in 2013, upon retirement from her bookkeeping job. Navigator, Meal Mate and NODA (No One Dies Alone). She did it all, giving over 7,500 hours. She even participated in training drills to put the staff through their paces. She was the Values in Action Service Award Recipient in 2014. honoring the top volunteer. After Covid, she couldn’t walk as far around the hospital, so she found a new niche in retail at the Stork Stop and never stopped being available to sit with dying patients.
She painted backyard murals and Little League banners. She sewed clothes for herself and many others; dresses for school dances; Halloween costumes; curtains and pillows. Her Minion ghosts made traffic hazardous on Palmyra in October. She loved sharing her spring wildflowers. She loved vegetable garden, tomatoes most of all, and enjoyed baking her zucchini bread. Collected garden art, angels, dragonflies and wind chimes. She entertained for holidays and enjoyed feeding people. Her Christmas crafts were uniquely her and are treasured.
She gave of herself and was there for anyone who needed her. She was full of love. She spoke her mind, often without a filter. She was independent; stubborn; sassy. A beautiful person inside and out. She will be missed.
Her Celebration of Life will be on Friday, July 18, 2025
