Germaine Virginia Conner Obituary
It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of Germaine “Gerry” Conner, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who left us peacefully just 8 weeks shy of her 98th birthday.
Gerry was born in Michigan in 1928 as Germaine Virginia Martin and grew up in Detroit alongside her older sister, Lucille. She was the daughter of Violet and Fred Martin. At the age of 11, she experienced the tragic loss of her father, who passed away from a heart attack. Her mother later remarried Amos “Gil” Gilsdorf, who helped raise her through the rest of her childhood.
At just 15 years old, Gerry met the love of her life, Richard “Rich” Conner. They married in 1948 when she was 19, beginning a beautiful partnership that would span 67 years. Together, they built a life full of love, family, and adventure. Gerry and Rich welcomed their daughter Darice in 1950, their son Richard in 1952, and their youngest son David in 1956.
In 1959, they moved to Anaheim, California to begin a new chapter, and in 1973, they settled in Orange, where they remained in the same home for the rest of their lives.
Their children grew up surrounded by adventure—camping, traveling, and spending time together as a family. Gerry and Rich especially enjoyed traveling to art shows showcasing Rich’s work, being part of a Pantera club, and taking road trips in their trailer, often visiting family in Arizona and Michigan.
Gerry lived a remarkable and full life, defined by strength, determination, grace, and resilience. She was loving and generous, with a spirited personality and a touch of stubbornness that made her all the more special. Known for her intelligence and wit, she had a gift for delivering the perfect unexpected comment that could make anyone laugh.
She was an incredible cook and took great joy in bringing people together—whether entertaining family and friends, sharing meals, or creating lasting memories around her table. She loved playing bridge and enjoyed a good gin martini, always finding ways to connect and celebrate life with those around her.
She was deeply devoted to her family and was always there when someone needed help. She opened her home and her heart to many over the years, offering support and a place to stay for those getting back on their feet.
She also cherished the simple joys of life, including taking her grandchildren to local parks, playing cards with them, and creating special memories they will carry forever—something they all loved.
Gerry shared a love of cooking with her grandchildren and was always a trusted source of guidance and encouragement in the kitchen.
She shared a special bond with her sister Lucille, a connection that remained close throughout her life.
Gerry was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard “Rich” Conner, and her youngest son, David. She is survived by her daughter Darice and her son Richard, as well as seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren who will continue to carry her love forward.
Her legacy lives on in all who knew and loved her. She will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, humor, and unwavering love for her family. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
