Florine Flaherty Blick
Obituary 9/2021
Florine died peacefully the morning of September 1, 2021 at Stardust
Home in Costa Mesa, California. She had just been dressed and ready for
her day… she went in style!
Florine was born in Oregon and was raised in Santa Monica, California.
She attended Santa Monica High School. Her father, Roy Flaherty, was a
wounded soldier from WWI who, after the war, spent the rest of his life in
the Veteran’s Hospital. Her mother, Edith, worked at the hospital to be near
him. As a child, Florine spent a great deal of time visiting her dad. She was
a lifetime donor to Veterans’ organizations. She was an avid tennis player
until her eighties and took up golf at that time. She was also a stitchery
artist, dog breeder of Great Danes, and a wonderful mother of three
children. She worked in the medical profession in Los Angeles where she
raised her children. She retired to Newport Beach in 1984 to be closer to
family. She loved her family parties and social gatherings. She will be
dearly missed by her family and friends.
Florine is survived by her three children; Sheila (Tim) Collins, Sharon (John)
Skoworn, John (Eva) Blick, six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and
two great great grandchildren. Memorial Catholic Mass will be held on
September 25, 2021 at 11:00 AM. It will be at Our Lady of Mount Carmel
Church located at 1441 W. Balboa Blvd., Newport Beach.
