Our beloved Emilia Roman was born in Europe, in Romania, in 1933. Since a very young age, she had encountered and defeated all related adversities related to the war time and political situation, including the women discrimination,  at the time. A strong, talented and very intelligent student, Emilia graduated college as Valedictorian. She had an impressive career as economist, a model of professionalism and integrity, admired across the borders. 

More importantly however, Emilia was the most dedicated daughter, mother and wife, always placing family above herself, career or any other interests in life. Sweet, kind and generous, she always knew what the real priorities were, and, after the tragic passing of her husband, Emilia’s dedication to Micky, her only daughter, and Mircea, her son-in-law, was unreserved and absolute.
Over the last 35 years she had become our best friend and supporter, bringing unconditional love, joy and beauty to us and to all the others surrounding her. Emilia is a true inspiration for many, always humble, persistent, resilient and intellectually curious till her last day.

Her positive energy was amazing, fully justifying her “little squirrel” nickname. She was polarizing everyone’s attention and was the life and soul of the party, with a great sense of humor.
With Emilia moving into a residential facility less than a year ago, we discovered a wonderful extended family who had warmly adopted her. The neighbors were also amazingly supportive, celebrating along with us her daily walks thru the neighborhood. Again, we learned something invaluable from Emilia: how to stop and smell the flowers, one of life’s most important aspects at any age.

Emilia was a timid explorer but enjoyed the many trips we had completed together in comfort and safety, leaving us with great memories which she religiously captured in her diary. She will be missed enormously,  but her handwriting and photos will always remind us how incredibly lucky we’ve been to have her as part of our existence on earth and forever in our hearts!
