Edward Louis Foster

August 26, 1939 ~ January 4, 2022 (age 82)

Edward Louis Foster was born in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania on August 26, 1939 to his parents Edward Arthur Foster and Susan Jeannette Boucherle. He had two older sisters, Patricia “Pat” and Anastasia “Stacy.” In 1945, the family moved to New York City and later moved to Long Beach, California when he was a pre-teen. He attended St. Matthews Elementary School and graduated from St. Anthony High School. He continued his education at Orange Coast College, where he earned his AA degree.

At age 21, on October 29, 1960, he married his one and only sweetheart, Joan Marie Borden. Not long after, they moved into their first and only home in Garden Grove, California, where they have resided ever since. In this home they raised their family of six children, Jeanine, Edward Jr., Joseph, Susan, Mary, and Michael.

Ed spent his professional career at General Dynamics and later Hughes Aircraft. He earned his AA degree by attending college after work; and worked his way up as a beginner draftsman to a Design Engineer in the aerospace field. He worked on and helped design parts and electronics used on the F-16 fighter jet, M1 Abrams Tank, Tomahawk, and Stinger missile systems, to name a few.

Ed was always actively interested, steadfast, supportive and proud of his children and his six grandchildren - Joseph Jr., Jessica, Madeline, Macey, Dean, and Ethen.

He enjoyed learning new things and becoming proficient at many hobbies including wood working, firearms & making his own ammo, fly fishing, hand-making fishing lures, and was so close to becoming a Master fly fishing instructor.

Ed lived his life as a devout Catholic and true believer in the Father, Son & Holy Spirit. He was proud to have served in many ways over the years as a member of St. Columban Catholic Church, including his dedication to ministry leadership and in the Eucharistic Ministry program.

He is survived by his bride, Joan, his daughter, Jeanine Hoops, son-in-law Theron Hoops, son, Edward Foster Jr., son, Joseph Foster, daughter-in-law, Jackie Foster, daughter, Susan Hirsch and son-in-law, Shane Hirsch, daughter, Mary Foster, and son, Michael Foster; and his grandchildren Joseph Foster Jr., Jessica Foster, Madeline Hoops, Macey Hirsch, Dean Hirsch, and Ethen Foster.
