Dorothy Agnes Mohr

January 8, 1930 ~ June 7, 2021 (age 91)

Dorothy Agnes Tapocik Mohr, born January 8, 1930 in Springfield, Illinois passed on June 7, 2021 in Orange, California.  She is survived by the love of her life for 70 years, Norris J. Mohr aka Digger.  They left the Midwest and created a fruitful life in Southern California.

She was the daughter of Slovakian immigrants, Joseph, a coal miner and Amelia, a St. Aloysius church custodian. Dorothy had 10 brothers and sisters. Dorothy and Joe were pioneers coming to Southern California in the 1950’s. Preceding her in death were Agnes, Agnes, (two sisters), Joe, Paul, Frank, Bernie. She is survived by Sr. Anita Tapocik, Mary Stankavich, Margaret Doan (Bob) and John Tapocik (Claudette), all who followed to California.

The true joy of Dorothy’s life was her faith and family and she was guided by the principles of God, Country, Family and Notre Dame! She has three daughters, Nancy Mohr, Palm Springs, CA, Mary Kelly Mohr, DDS (Connecticut) and Karen Mohr Sunshine (Notre Dame, IN). Her true joy and legacy is reflected in her grandchildren and great grandchild.  Veronique Klemow (Aaron), Connecticut, Caroline Mohr Sunshine (Michigan), John Thomas Sunshine (Texas) and Christopher Sunshine (United States Air Force) and great grandson Henry Klemow (Connecticut).

Dorothy had numerous nieces and nephews and took great pride in being an Aunt, mentor and friend.  She was passionate about her Catholic faith and a long time parishioner at St. Frances of Rome in Azusa, California and later in life at St. Theresa’s in Palm Springs, California.  She was a hard working woman and cherished her years working at Santa Anita Race Track in Arcadia, California.

Most of all “Dottie” as Joe called her will be remembered as being the love of his life. Their relationship was a true testament to the vow of matrimony.  They married October 13, 1951 and at the time of death had been married 69 and ½ years.

A private family service will take place this Friday.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a Catholic grade school or perform a random act of kindness in Dottie’s honor.
