Diana Emma Hines
10/15/1942 – 10/25/2023
Diana Emma Hines of Orange, CA, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2023 with her children and grandchildren by her side. She was well known for her kindness and generosity as well as her unwavering dedication to and love for her family, always putting them first. Diana was born in Buffalo, New York on October 15, 1942 to parents Carlton and Emma Tober. Diana grew up in Buffalo, New York graduating from South Park High School in 1960 and the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science in Education.
Diana married Myron Hartwig, the love of her life, in 1964. Myron’s call from the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod to start a mission church in Orange County, CA brought them to the city of Orange in 1965. Together they raised their two sons, Todd and Colin. After Myron passed away, God sent Ronald Hines into her life. They were married in 2010 until he passed away in 2021. Diana was an exceptionally devoted wife who praised God for bringing both of these men into her life.
Diana was hardworking and dedicated in every job she held. She taught school, was a secretary, worked at a donut shop, had a 1-year jury duty commitment, was a teacher’s aide and owned and operated a child care business as well as a guest home business. But, according to her, her most important responsibilities were taking care of her husband and children.
Diana’s hobbies included scrapbooking, crossword puzzles, organizing things, keeping updated on the local, national and world news as well as keeping tabs on the sports scores. Specifically, the Rams games. She was very active at her apartment complex. She coordinated the weekly coffee hour, worked to coordinate the occasional parties and made sure that each resident received a birthday card signed by all the other residents. But, her signature contribution was her seasonal signs she displayed in the apartment community room. Whether it was for Christmas, Easter, Valentine’s Day or just summertime, she had a sign for it. Diana would be delighted to know that the residents have asked for her artwork so they can carry on the tradition in her honor.
Diana loved the Lord with all her heart. She was an active member at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Orange. She enjoyed attending the contemporary service and meeting with her bible study group every week.
Diana is survived by her son Todd Hartwig and his wife Lina Hartwig; her son Colin Hartwig and his wife Victoria Hartwig; her sister Susan McKay and her husband Mike McKay as well as her seven grandchildren Justine Hartwig, Tyler Hartwig, Brooke Hartwig, Trevor Hartwig, Isabelle Rodriguez, Ryan Hartwig and Jack Hartwig.
Diana has been a blessing to many people in many ways. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
