David N Kenneally Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David “Dave” Nicholas Kenneally, at the age of 62. Hepassed peacefully in the early morning of Wednesday, November 6th after a short hospital stay due to a Parkinson’s Disease related fall. Dave was the devoted husband of 35 years to his wife Denise (nee Stubenrauch), father to Kristin and Sean, older brother to John and Brendan, uncle, cousin, and friend to so many.

Dave was born in San Francisco on October 7, 1962, to Brendan and Peggy Kenneally, originally from Ireland. He was raised in San Francisco’s Sunset District and where he attended St. Cecilia grade school before becoming a SaintIgnatius Wildcat, graduating in the Class of 1980. Dave went onto the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) where he graduated in 1985 with a Business Economics degree. He was a brother of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, the birthplace of his nickname to many, “Puppy”. While a member of Lambda Chi, he held many leadership roles and helped create their annual fundraising event, ISVT – the Inter-Sorority Volleyball Tournament held each year on Santa Barbara’s East Beach in which all funds raised benefited the Special Olympics of Southern California.

It was in Isla Vista, where Dave met the love of his life, Denise. The two later moved to Los Angeles and married on September 9, 1989. They moved to their home in Rossmoor in 1994 and soon welcomed their daughter, Kristin, in 1995. Their son, Sean, was born five years later in 2000.

While Denise, a Southern California native, is usually the guess for why the two moved to Los Angeles, it was an opportunity at KPMG Peat Marwick as an Audit Associatethat led Dave to the City of Angels. Dave left KPMG after reaching the level of Senior Manager. He took various Controller positions until he landed at Fidelity National Title in Irvine where he was Vice President of Financial Reporting. After leaving Fidelity due to a company move to Santa Barbara, Dave held CFO and Controller roles at CPS and New Century Mortgage. Like many in the industry, the financial crash and subsequent recession of 2008 lead Dave towards consulting for various mortgage and finance corporations until his retirement in 2016.

Always a businessman first, Dave filled his free time with a variety of interests and activities. He was an avid golfer and cook; playing in the annual Palm Springs boondoggle that was the KPMG alumni golf tournament and cooking his yearly Thanksgiving feast that involved a three-day brining process and hour by hour timetable for premium kitchen efficiency. Dave was a lifelong fan of both the San Francisco 49ers and Giants, instilling his love of sports into his kids who both work in the sports industry.

Dave will be best remembered for his devotion to his family, love for cooking for large groups of friends and family, inherent knowledge of useless facts during trivia, and his superior autobiographical memory for restaurantmeals and sporting events.

Services:  A Celebration of Life will be held in San Francisco in the upcoming weeks; if you would like details around the service, please reach out to Dave’s daughter, Kristin, at Kristin.Kenneally@yahoo.com.
