Charles Perkins

Charles Wilbert Perkins, 83, passed peacefully in his sleep on May 28, 2021, in his favorite spot on the couch at home.  He was born August 22, 1937, in Costa Mesa, CA. The son of Wilbert M. and Josephine Perkins.

Charles graduated from Orange High School, Class of 1955.  Following graduation, he served with the U.S Navy on the USS Midway. He enlisted in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1961 and 1965.  In between and beyond his military service, he was employed with the United States Post Office.  He was employed for 40 years and received his Million Mile Walk plaque.

In 1987, he married Silvia Ortiz after she responded to a Personal Ad in the paper and they settled in Orange, CA.  They celebrated 33 years of marriage in October 2020 and had 3 children together.  Charles enjoyed taking his family out Camping, fishing and going to amusement parks, wild animal parks and zoos. In his earlier years he truly enjoyed the family parties and visiting the farm in Mexicali.  He had memories of the fried chicken and papas and spending time with his sisters and brothers in law and enjoying some beers. He was always happy to go to the parties in El Monte as well.  His greatest joy was when his two grandchildren were born. He couldn’t wait to have little ones running around the house again.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Silvia (Ortiz) Perkins, are his sons, Charles Perkins Jr., Edward Perkins; daughters, Sandra Perkins, her partner Darwin Garcia, Step Daughter, Evelin Moreno and her husband, Stevan Moreno; two grandchildren, Madison Moreno and Brandon Garcia; one sister, Edna (Joann) Arnsten; many nieces and nephews.

A service in remembrance will be held 10am to 12 pm on Thursday July 15, 2021 at the Chapel of Orange, 215 N. Grand Street, Orange CA 92866.  Interment will be at 2pm at the Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside CA 92518.
