Bettie Carolyn Woody was born on July 8th, 1933 in Fayetteville, West Virginia. She was the youngest of two children. She was raised and went to school in Dunbar, West Virginia. After graduating from high school, Bettie spent a short time in Detroit Michigan before making Southern California her permanent home. During her time in Detroit, her claim to fame was as an Edsel automobile model. Later, after moving to California, Bettie was hired on at Disneyland in 1956 and was the first woman to ride on the acclaimed Matterhorn rollercoaster! Her first job at the Park was as a tour guide, she then later worked as a secretary in the courthouse on Main Street in Disneyland. As you enter the Main Street courthouse, her desk was on the right by the window. One average workday, a gentleman walked into the courthouse. Bettie said, "May I help you sir?" The gentleman smiled and said, "You don't know who I am, do you?" She said, "No, but if you tell me what you need I'd be happy to help."  He said, "I am Walt Disney and you are a very polite young lady!"

She went on to work under future president Jack Lindquist in the marketing department and eventually as a subscription coordinator for the Disney News magazine. Retiring from Disneyland after 33 years she became a respected figure in the Orange Circle as the owner of beloved Woody's Antiques.  Located in downtown Orange, California, Woody's was opened with her son Bret 'Woody' 43 years ago. She loved finding new homes for their beautiful quality pieces of vintage furniture and collectibles. She was an entrepreneur and incredibly hardworking. She was not only a beauty but intelligent, fiesty, ambitious, a ball of fire, generous, energetic, strong and loving. Anyone that knew her knows she was a force to reckoned with. She loved music and dancing and was known as the life of the party!  Most of all she was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and daughter who loved her family more than anything. She taught us all so many things of which we will forever be grateful. Sadly, she lost her battle with dementia on June 11th, 2023 peacefully surrounded by family and love. She was cared for by the wonderful team at MaryKnoll Senior Care in Placentia and Pinnacle Hospice Care of Los Alamitos. The entire family will always be very grateful for the exceptional love and care they showed.  She had countless friends of which she loved keeping in touch with and will be greatly missed by all that knew her. She is proceeded in death by her mother Elizabeth McJunkin, father Clyde Dale McJunkin and brother Clyde McJunkin. She leaves behind her four children, oldest son Roderick Powell and wife Chol-C, son Bret Woody, daughter Alisa Woody and daughter Cheryl Woody Pegram, and husband Mark. Four grandchildren Dennell Ellis (Daniel), Kristin Priesand (Eddie), Drew Pegram (Ty), and Ethan Pegram (Haden).  Four great grandchildren, Nate and Ella Priesand and Abilene and Hudson Ellis. In lieu of flowers, please donate to You Can Help Save Animals Today! | ASPCA .
