Alice Jeanne Rodriguez was born August 9, 1929 in Santa Ana, California and passed away in Tustin, California on July 30, 2026.
Alice grew up in Santa Ana and graduated from Santa Ana High School in 1947. She graduated from East Los Angeles Junior College in 1952 with an Associate of Arts Degree. Alice also graduated from Los Angeles County USC Medical Center School of Nursing with a nursing diploma in 1952. In 1985 she earned a Baccalaureate Degree of Nursing from the University of Phoenix.
Early in her career she worked as a technical advisor ensuring accuracy in hospital scenes for the Ben Casey series in the 1960s, which was the first of its kind on television. From 1971 through 1972 she was a technical advisor at Twentieth Century Fox studios, and in 1973 for Screen Gems, Burbank Studios.
Over the course of her fifty-year nursing career, not only did she provide hands-on nursing care to many, she also taught nurses and orderlies in a variety of educational settings. She helped create a broad array of health education media in a number of programs – Trainex Corporation, University of California Irvine, Santa Ana Community Hospital, Comprenetics, and Trade Technical College, Department of Nursing. She then worked the last half of her career as a nurse at Saddleback Breast Center, Santa Ana Comprehensive Breast Health Center, Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center, and lastly St. Joseph Hospital Comprehensive Breast Center.
Alice met Dr. Raul Rodriguez when they both worked at Los Angeles County Hospital. They were married on August 9, 1952. They moved to Texas when Raul served as a medic in the Air Force, and then moved to Arizona before returning to southern California. They had four children, Susanne, Andrea, Richard, and Jeanne Marie.
Alice enjoyed music and cooking gourmet meals, including her mother-in-law’s Mexican recipes. She also made many of her mother’s recipes from Tennessee. She loved the arts and fashion and various styles of architecture.
Alice is predeceased by her parents Carnie and Mary Phillips, brother Dick Phillips, daughter Jeanne Marie Rodriguez, grandsons Ashley and Rain Griepp. She is survived by daughters Susanne Griepp (husband Winston) and Andrea Rodriguez (husband Shane Duncan), son Richard Rodriguez, grandsons Freedom and Sky Griepp (wife Rachael), great grandson Cassius Griepp, and great granddaughters Ember Alice and Fern Griepp.
Alice is also survived by sister-in-law Judy Phillips, niece Sherry Phillips-Kohaut (husband Harry), niece Mikaela Davenport, and nephew Rick Phillips (wife Alison) and nieces Emily and Katie and nephew Jake.
The family is planning a celebration of Alice’s life for early October 2026.
