I just heard about Steve’s passing this week, by looking at postings from the High School reunion.
He was a close friend in our school years there.
We surfed together, made music together, and I loved his laid back and truly cool vibe. Not put on, but the real thing. I saw him at the 25th reunion, which was 25 years ago. He was the same sweet guy I had known in school. So sorry to hear he is gone. He died just three days before my daughter died that year…she was just 26. I think a life is a good and full life, no matter how long it lasts. Quality not quantity you might say. To anyone who knew him I send love and good memories. Wayne Spanier

Jane: My thoughts and prayers and with you and your family. I was about to contact Steve regarding meeting with him in Cali again when I saw this and was shocked. Steve, was my best friend at Rolling Hills High School, Class of '72. We shared our inner hopes and dreams, wonderful memories and great times. You and your parents always treated me as "family". Steve and I got together 2 years ago in Laguna Beach and it was just like the "good old days". Steve was an extremely talented musician as well as an exceptional human being. He truly was a "gentleman" and kind to all. We will all miss him greatly! Till we meet again "my friend".

Jane: I am shocked and dismayed. I spoke with Steve recently regarding our marriage and other things that happened in my life. I also spoke with Bob Bauman, a relative. He had my phone number and email address. For some reason I had to find out Steve passed on FB. Steve was the best guitar player I ever met. No one could rival him. He was a master researcher and was simply fascinated with genetics. He will be missed. Be blessed.

Oh I am so very sorry to hear the news of Steve's passing. He was a truely kind, gentle, accepting person. I recently reconnected with Steve on Facebook, but met him originally in Fall 1968 as we both entered Rolling Hills High School. All the students with surnames starting with S-T-U-V-W-X-Y-Z were assigned lockers jammed together in one section for the entire 4 years; so Steve and I smiled and talked to each other several times a day. He was a really good guy. I am grateful to have known him. Blessings to the family.

Nancy: Steve and I were married for about 5 years. He was my first husband. We reconnected recently. I am trying to retrieve memories that were erased from me. My grandmother was a Baumgardner and my drummer who worked with Steve Bob Bauman was a relative. The Gartner name is a very special name as you well know. I wish I could remember you or have known you.
