Roy Francis Jones

May 30, 1927 – February 2, 2019

 Roy was born on May 30, 1927 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Roy and LaVon Jones.  He was the eldest child followed by two sisters.  He attended school in Webster City, Iowa and graduated from high school in 1945. After high school he enlisted in the Navy during World War II.  He was stationed out of San Francisco.  Even though the war ended soon after, Roy continued on with his service for two years.  Upon completion he returned to Iowa and began training as a dental technician. 

He met Doris Challgren while he was out on the town with his buddies and she was with her friends.  They were married on May 21, 1949 at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dayton, Iowa.  Soon after they decided to move to California to pursue more opportunities and settled in Long Beach.  Roy soon found a job working as a dental technician in San Pedro.

They had their first son, Scott, in 1954 followed by a daughter, Jane, in 1957.  After some time, Roy was able to purchase his own dental lab, Harbor Dental Lab, in Long Beach which he owned and ran for many years.  He retired in 1990.   In 1992 they choose to relocate to a quieter life on the central coast in Santa Maria.

They spent many happy years in Santa Maria.  They enjoyed attending their grandchildren’s baseball and softball games, taking many trips with the local senior center and playing bridge with their friends. Roy also taught bridge at the senior center.   Roy was an avid pool and poker player as well as a joke teller and storyteller.  Roy truly brought joy and laughter to many people. Roy and Doris were also devoted members of Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Santa Maria where they had many cherished friends.

In 2013 they relocated to Orange County to be near their children.  They lived in their own home there and later moved to a senior living facility in Anaheim Hills.

Roy passed away peacefully at 6:50 am on February 2, 2019 in Yorba Linda.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and LaVon Jones, and his sister Bonnie Freed.  He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Doris; his sister, Sondra; his son, Scott (Jill);  daughter, Jane (Sergio); granddaughter, Kristin (Brent); grandson, Matthew (Kim); and great grandchildren, Kynsey, Kadence and Samuel.
