Philip Taylor SmithApril 8, 1965 ~ July 30, 2017 (age 52)
On Sunday evening, July 30, 2017 Phil died from a sudden and fatal heart attack in their family home; he was 52 years old.
At this time we ask that you lift up in your prayers Leslie, Alyssa and her husband Chris, Angie and Danny, as well as Phil’s family and friends. The Smith family is surrounded by loved ones.
“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:1-6)
The memorial service for Phil will be on Monday, August 7, at 2:30 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Orange.
Phil loved Orange Lutheran and was dedicated to its mission. He loved supporting his wife and was actively involved at the school; he was honored to be known as the “Husband of the Head of School.” Phil was proud that his daughters, Alyssa and Angie, graduated from OLu in 2011 and 2013 respectively, and his son-in-law, Chris, graduated in 2010. His son, Danny, will be a freshman at OLu beginning this school year. As the son of a pastor and Christian educator, it would be Phil’s wish to extend the opportunity for more students to experience Orange Lutheran and to internalize the gospel message of salvation in Christ Jesus. In lieu of flowers, the Smith family requests donations in Phil’s memory to “Orange Lutheran High School - Lancer Legacy Fund” to provide endowed financial assistance for children of pastors and Christian educators to join the Orange Lutheran family for years to come.
