Philip Bernard GingrichAugust 1, 1945 ~ November 24, 2017 (age 72)
Philip Bernard Gingrich died on November 24, 2017 at Agape Congregate Care in Placentia, CA after a long illness. Philip was born in Pompton Lakes, NJ on August 1, 1945. He graduated at the top of his class from Millville (PA) High School, where he was also a starting forward on the varsity soccer team. He subsequently graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1967 and remained an avid football fan of his alma mater throughout his life. Immediately after graduation, he departed PA for southern CA where he worked in the aeronautical industry until his retirement from Boeing Integrated Defense Systems in 2000. At his retirement, Philip was one of the top aeronautical engineers (wing design) in the country and designed the wings for the Rockwell HiMAT aircraft which is now in the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum in Washington, D.C. He and his wife were very active for many years in the Central Orange Bobby Sox softball league, now known as the Central Orange Girls Fast Pitch, and the Orange Junior Soccer Club. Philip’s beloved wife Mercy (Estrada) to whom he was married over 40 years died in 2014. Philip is survived by his daughter Diane (Michael) Avis and grandson Spenser as well as Ross, Susan and Paul (Belinda) Gingrich, Paul Estrada (Cheryl), Daniel Estrada and several nieces and nephews, including his godson Paul Estrada Jr.
A Family Celebration of Life will be held for Philip at the DoubleTree Club by Hilton Hotel Orange County Airport on Hutton Centre Drive, Santa Ana at 11 o’clock on Saturday morning, January 13, 2018. A private interment will be at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, 7845 E Santiago Canyon Rd, Orange, CA 92869.
