On the morning of June 20, 2017 at the age of 79, Leandro Allan left this earth to be with the Heavenly Father. He is survived by his loving and supportive wife, Estrella, 4 children, 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and 2 twin sisters. Allan and Estrella would have celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on July 2nd.

Allan, as he was commonly called, was a man with a passion for knowledge and a desire to always be the best. He also had a knack for adaptability to changing circumstances. He graduated from Lord Chancellor College of Law in Tagbilaran, Bohol and was President of the Student Council. As testament to his Catholic faith, he enrolled in a seminary to become a priest and was there for 5 years, ultimately deciding that he would serve God as a layperson and live his life as God intended.

He was a man of many talents and interests which he parlayed into forays into radio broadcasting (he was a popular radio announcer), theater in college (he enjoyed being an actor), and golf, playing at a near professional and often fanatical level. After he immigrated to United States in 1971 with his wife and 4 small children in tow, he adapted to his changing circumstances and created a great life of the American dream with his family. Through his determination and sacrifices, he was able to provide for his family in a new land, achieving success as the #1 insurance salesman for a well-known firm in Chicago, Illinois.

In later years after heading west to California, Allan ventured into a new career as a computer technician, going back to school, earning his certificates, and eventually being hired as an expert in solving computer problems. He prided himself in being able to build computers from the ground up and would exhort anyone willing to lend an ear on the intricacies of motherboards, CPUs, and hard drives. He was relentless in his pursuit of being the best he could be.

After he retired, he went back to playing golf. He picked up swimming and basketball, and then heralded a new line of fanaticism: online poker. He was determined to excel in this too. While retirement suited him for the most part, his inner need to learn new things and experience new challenges had him return to the workforce to try something different. Eventually, this led to his becoming a branch manager of a securities firm until health challenges beckoned him to slow down.

Allan had a zest for life. While at the hospital struggling to hold on as his lungs and kidneys were failing, he asserted he would live to 100. Tried as he might to achieve this goal, God had another plan for him. While he will be missed tremendously by his family and friends, they take great comfort in knowing he is in the Arms of the Lord.

Rest in peace, Allan. You’ve earned your wings.
