Joan Elizabeth (Shimer) Emge

Joan passed away peacefully in Mission Viejo, CA on December 11, 2018 after suffering a stroke, just two weeks shy of her 92nd birthday.

She was born in Los Angeles to Joseph and Elizabeth Shimer on December 23, 1926. She was the second child of seven.  She attending Saint Michael’s Catholic School in Los Angeles.  

She is survived by her six children, Jean Emge, Carol (Richard) Nagel, Mike (Holly) Emge, Dennis Emge, Joe Emge,  Patty (Mark) Hall.  As well as her grandchildren, Kenn (Dana) Dorey, Kevin (Samantha) Dorey,  Brenna Ferguson and Duncan Ferguson, and her four brothers, Jerry, Gene , Ron (Barbara), Joe (Mary Ellen) Shimer. 

We carry the memories bestowed on us by a Mom who was forever there for each of us. She was the Mother who was always at home to welcome her children after a hard day at school. The same support continued as we became adults and she was so happy for any of our accomplishments we had in life.  

She lived a long and happy life with her large family.  She was married to Chuck Emge for 53 years until his passing in July of 2003.  We will miss her wonderful spirit and quick humor.  A private service will held at Saint Timothy’s Catholic Church in Laguna Niguel, CA.  In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to NAMI (National Alliance of the Mentally Ill) in her memory.
