Edwin A Burns

Beloved husband, father and grandfather Edwin A Burns died on June 22, 2018 in Orange, California at the age of 95. He was surrounded by his family, including his lovely wife, Loretta. He was born on January 13, 1923 in Grand Haven, Michigan. He attended the Naval Academy and MIT. He was selected to join the Marines. He served in the Marine Corps for 23 years and was stationed in Japan, Guam, Korea and Okinawa. After retiring from the Corps, he attended Chapman College to obtain a master’s degree in education. He taught math and science at Katella High School for 23 years.

He married his first love, Mary Jane Callahan, in Lima, Ohio in 1948 and they had seven children. Mary Jane died in July 1980. He married the second love of his life, Loretta Sandles, in May 1992. He is survived by his wife, Loretta, children David (Barbara), Steve (Terry), Mary (John) Liveratti, Jeff (Sabina), Daniel (Bernadette), Anne (Mike) Pollinger, and Patty Burns-Lynch; and step-children, Wayne (Christie) Sandles, and Lisa (Ted) Sandles; 26 grandchildern and 5 great-grandchildren with 2 more due in the Fall.

He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Elizabeth (Robertson) Burns, and siblings Anne Schwartz, John, Charles, Roberta Stobblelaar, Elizabeth Werner and Patricia Burns.

Edwin was a life-long learner, even purchasing a new computer for his 94th birthday. He loved sports, especially the Detroit Lions and Tigers and Anaheim Angels. He wrote and recited poetry often at the dinner table. He loved his family and the summer reunions at Donner Lake.
