Stewart Robert Meyer

Stewart Meyer a resident of Orange since 1950 passed away peacefully of natural causes…he was 97 years old. Stewart was born in Holstein, Iowa, to William and Beulah Meyer. Stewart rode a horse to a one room schoolhouse all through elementary, junior high and high school. He continued on to college to earn his bachelor’s, master’s and teaching credentials.

Stewart was a beloved husband who was married to Emily Meyer for 67 years after they met at a dance in college. Emily passed away in 2011. He helped Emily raise 3 boys which was not an easy task!

Stewart taught wood shop and drafting at Orange High School for over 30 years retiring in 1980. He had many accomplishments and hobbies. He loved to play guitar and sang with his own big band. He proudly received his airplane pilot wings and flew all over the U.S. He repaired watches and clocks, made furniture and enlarged their home by building on additional rooms. Stewart had the honor of being an AAU Track and Field Official for the 1984 L.A. Olympics. He was an avid golfer where he got to celebrate making a Hole-in-One. Stewart spent his Sundays at the old First Baptist Church of Orange as a Deacon and Usher. He and Emily enjoyed spending time at the Senior Center, where Stewart entertained their friends, and he and Emily shared their love for dancing.

Stewart is survived by sons Lynn, Martin, and Bruce, daughter-in-law Cathy Meyer (Lynn’s Wife), granddaughters Tabetha and Michelle and 4 great grandchildren, Destinee, Joseph, Jonathan, and Vai.

We know that Stewart will be happy to be with Emily again, but he will be greatly missed.
